The need to have a set of standards for all to follow culminated in two widely used standard systems:·The South African National Standard (SANS)·The Standard System of Measuring Building Work (SSM). But what is the difference between these two standards?The South African National Standard is a regulatory set of standards that dictates how quantities should be measured to compile a Bill of Quantities. These standards can be used for various kinds of projects, such as engineering and construction works. The standard System of Measuring Building Works (SSM) is a set of regulatory standards for measuring building works across the profession. This standard system was created in conjunction with international practices to ensure uniformity.
