The Texas Medical Association (TMA) elected Rodney Young, M.D., regional chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the #Amarillo campus, to the TMA Board of Trustees during TexMed 2024, its annual conference. Dr. Young is believed to be the first Amarillo physician to serve on the TMA board.

“SHE’S GOING TO TECH” 👆 Rachel, an incoming TTUHSC School of Health Professions student, is excited to have been accepted into the Master of Science in Addiction Counseling program! The fully online program trains future addiction counselors to provide and coordinate services for people with a range of substance use disorders and other behavioral addictions and health problems.

Benjamin Batson, D.O., (Fellowship ’23, Residency ’20 and Nursing ’07) was an “A” student in high school, but says he was bored and aimless. He eventually dropped out. Despite that inauspicious start, Dr. Batson is now a physician specializing in pulmonary and critical care medicine. He eventually figured out what he wanted to do — work in health care — and he didn’t let anything stop him.

Last month, team members from the TTUHSC School of Health Professions in Midland and Odessa volunteered at the West Texas Food Bank! They helped build 630 food bags that will go to those in need in their communities.

In recognition of her distinguished contributions to the field of infectious diseases, particularly for the development of chronic wound infection models, Kendra Rumbaugh, Ph.D., a professor in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine Department of Surgery, was recently named to the 2023 Fellowship class by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

“So excited to announce I’ll be attending the #1 nursing school in Texas!!” 🩺 Lexi, an incoming student in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing, is excited to have been accepted into nursing school! All four “Levels” of the Traditional BSN program are offered in Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, Mansfield and Odessa.
