The Oklahoma Sooners didn’t perform as well as they would have liked, but the Florida Gators came to play and put the back-to-back defending national champions in an elimination game scenario heading into Tuesday.
It was the first Sooners loss in the NCAA Tournament in three seasons, breaking a 20-game tournament winning streak. It also broke Oklahoma’s 10-game winning streak and Patty Gasso’s undefeated record against former assistants.
But the Sooners live to play another day. Oklahoma will play the Florida Gators on Tuesday at 1 p.m. CT for the right to play the Texas Longhorns in the Women’s College World Series championship. Will the Sooners bounce back, or will the Gators keep Oklahoma out of the championship for the first time since the 2017 season?
That's the way Softball Go
Just not their day today. Throw it away and come back tomorrow.

They'd been good this season
Hey all you coaches out there with 0 career wins: I’m sure she will throw Maxwell tomorrow. Gives her an extra day. May and Deal have pitched big games this year. No reason to think they couldn’t have today. Also, if KM lost today, then what?

All over the place
Ngl- for both teams..
This strike zone is wild.

I’ve never cheered for the gators until today lol

Strong performance by the Gators
20-game NCAA winning streak and now facing largest deficit in three years. 😂😂. Imagine having a meltdown online about it. I think they’ll be fine. Tip the cap to Florida. Impressive stuff taking advantage of some miscues.

Can't win leaving that many on base
#Sooners coach Patty Gasso: "Tough game for us. Florida hit the ball really well today. Credit them for that. We left 10 runners in scoring position so that's tought. … The beauty of this is we get another opportunity to get it right."

Trust the Process
Despite some media who don’t really understand. With 2 games to win 1 this is why you save your ace. A fresh Maxwell against an exhausted Rothrock, I like our chances.

They create magic
The cool thing about our softball team is even though they got beat up today, most of us watched to the final pitch with at least some glimmer of hope. This team has come through so many times when it looked like they were out. Tons of faith in them tomorrow!

Feels odd
Mondays should be off limits for collegiate athletics …

Can't knock em down that easy
Florida is no joke. But this is Oklahoma softball. Get through this game. Win or lose, we are not leaving OKC until the end of this week after the champ series. BOOMER SOONER! LFGGGG

Still reason for optimism
Double elimination. Law of large numbers favors Oklahoma. They win ballgames. They’re playing a rare bad game.
This game isn’t even over yet (though I don’t love the outlook of it rn).
Head up people

Patty Gasso has this
Patty deserves every single benefit of the doubt you can give.
Obviously this team is hard to beat twice and you can second guess a decision to not go for the jugular game one.
If 2 days off gives Maxwell extra juice after her last performance then it’s worth it.
If they don’t…

Foreshadowing?
In 2022, the #Sooners lost the Monday morning #WCWS semifinal to UCLA, 7-3, then routed the Bruins in the afternoon elimination game, 15-0 in five innings.

No reason to panic
Gotta regroup and lock back in! We good! #OUDNA

Another day to do what they do
Rough day at the office. Far from the #Sooners best, but tomorrow is a new day. https://t.co/ygAvLW1pM1

Let's Ride at least one more time
If you've already given up, we don't want you. Win or lose, real ones ride. And give credit where it's due. Florida showed the hell up today. They played like their season was on the line, because it is. I don't know about y'all, but I know exactly where I'll be when OU responds.

Watch out Florida
Knocked down today, but the Sooners will get up tomorrow.
