How to use QuickMapServices plugin? ›

Install the QuickMapServices plugin. Click on Web ► QuickMapServices. The first menu lists different map providers ( OSM , NASA ) with available maps. Click on an entry and you would load the base map into your project.

Open the plugin's search tab by clicking on Web ‣ QuickMapServices ‣ Search QMS. This option of the plugin allows you to filter the available base maps by the current extent of the map canvas. Click on the Filter by extent and you should see one service available. Click on the Add button next to the map to load it.

Go to Layout-> Add a Map. Once the Add map button is active, hold the left mouse and drag a rectangle where you want to insert the map. You will see that the rectangle window will be rendered with the map from the main QGIS canvas. You can see in the far right end the Items box; this shows you the map you just added.

Browse through the available plugins or use the search function to find a specific plugin. Click on the "Install Now" button next to the plugin you want to install. Wait for the installation process to complete and then click on the "Activate" button to activate the plugin.

Installing Plugins

Any time you want to install a new plugin, go to Edit > Preferences and click on the Plugins tab. If you don't see a list of available plugins, click Download List. To install a plugin you simply must check the box next to it and click OK at the bottom.
